About Hālauka‘ie‘ie

Hālaukaʻieʻie is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by Kumu Hula Pōmaikaʻi Krueger to preserve, perpetuate, and share the ʻike of Hawaiʻi for future generations.

We believe hula is far more than dance. It is language, history, genealogy, poetry, ceremony, and a way of understanding our relationship with the land and one another.

Through regular classes, cultural education, performances, and community outreach, our mission is to create a place where students grow not only as dancers, but as people.

Hālaukaʻieʻie exists to preserve, perpetuate, and practice Native Hawaiian culture through hula, ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, oli, and cultural education, while fostering connection, discipline, and community across generations.

To cultivate generations of students who carry Hawaiian knowledge with humility, integrity, and aloha, strengthening both our communities and our cultural heritage for generations to come.

Why ‘ie‘ie?

Sacred to hula, the ‘ie‘ie vine climbs steadily through the forest, anchoring itself as it reaches toward the light. It reminds us that true growth is patient, resilient, and deeply connected.

Like the ‘ie‘ie, every student grows one lesson, one chant, one hula, and one act of aloha at a time.

Our curriculum is designed for both in-person and online students, allowing everyone to learn together regardless of where they live.

Classes

Whether you are four years old or eighty-four, there is a place for you at Hālaukaʻieʻie.

Classes are organized by age and experience to ensure every student receives instruction appropriate to their stage of learning.

No previous experience is necessary.

Online Learning

Can't attend in person?

Our online classroom allows students to participate from anywhere in the world. Live classes are recorded and archived so students can review lessons at their own pace.

Online students receive the same curriculum, instruction, and educational materials as those attending in person.
